Nutritionists & Dietitians are health professionals who plan diet for people. Creating a deep understanding of healthy diets is their primary responsibility. However, there is a difference between nutrition and dietetics. Nutrition focuses on the promotion of health through healthy food, whereas dietetics focuses on food management.
Dietitians plan, monitor, and supervise the diets for patients across clinics, hospitals, sports centers, health centers or their own private clinic. They are responsible for recommending proper and correct food & eating habits while keeping a check on patient’s lifestyle, age, health, and food preferences.
Nutritionists can’t plan diets for patients with medical problems. However, they provide advice to people on their health & food choices and help them achieve better health. Their expertise lies in various fields including public health nutrition, community health and tertiary education related to nutrition. They work as a nutrition consultants and advisers, health promotion officers, quality and nutrition coordinators, community development officers etc.
A nutritionist may also upgrade to become a dietitian by acquiring a proper knowledge of dietetics course.
